I am running Windows 10 Pro on my laptop which only has an HDD. Recently, I bought an SSD and was trying to reinstall Windows into it when I realised that I had forgotten the password to my BIOS so that I cannot boot from the USB stick that I'thou using. I know that I can merely run the setup.exe file after booting into the OS that I already have on my machine merely that'south just going to reinstall information technology in the same drive. Every bit far every bit I know, the only way to install into a different sectionalization is by booting from the USB stick which cannot be accomplished without BIOS access.
Past the style, I apply an Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-50UW and my BIOS is Insyde corp V2.02. I haven't able to admission the boot carte without going into the BIOS like I call back having done in my older desktop PC.
Thanks in accelerate.

Go to settings/update & security/recovery
nether advanced startup, click restart now
on this menu there is an choice chosen Utilize a device. If you put USB in earlier you reach this screen, you may exist able to boot from it.
this isn't the platonic way to reinstall equally win 10 will see the erstwhile hdd and unless you wipe it, will use the kicking partition that already exists on information technology for the 1 that you really desire on the ssd.
I can't aid y'all any other way, especially with regard to a "forgotten" bios countersign.

It will use the HDD to boot anyway since he won't be able to change the bios settings,if he completely wipes the HDD he might find himself with a non bootable system.this isn't the ideal way to reinstall as win 10 will see the old hdd and unless you wipe information technology, will employ the boot partition that already exists on it for the one that you lot really want on the ssd.I tin't aid you lot any other way, specially with regard to a "forgotten" bios countersign.

Yep, true. unless he tin remember his bios countersign the boot order would remain the same.I would contact Acer and ask them for communication. if y'all can evidence to them information technology is your laptop they might have a way to fix bios password.
The restart would've worked but information technology turns out that secure boot has been enabled and I've tried disabling past going into Troubleshoot > Avant-garde Options > UEFI Firmware Settings just nothing's listed there except "restart" which is obviously pointless. You can become win ten to boot off USB from within windows.
Get to settings/update & security/recovery
under avant-garde startup, click restart now
on this menu there is an option called Use a device. If you put USB in before y'all reach this screen, yous may exist able to boot from it.this isn't the ideal way to reinstall as win x volition run across the old hdd and unless you wipe information technology, will use the kicking segmentation that already exists on it for the i that you really desire on the ssd.
I can't help you whatsoever other way, peculiarly with regard to a "forgotten" bios countersign.

It certainly seems plausible but I'chiliad just running into more and more issues that I think it'due south far less hassle to contact Acer and obtain BIOS access. Speaking of problems, I was trying to mark my newly formed partition as "active" when I encountered the message that the deejay was not a "fixed MBR disk". Conversion to MBR was received past another bulletin that said that the command was extraneous every bit the disk contained a pagefile volume. I know I can move pagefile.sys but I don't call up this is the last of the bug to come and sending it in seems like a good idea at this phase. You tin can install windows directly from HDD also. Information technology but needs to be prepared appropriately.

You'd demand to connect the drive every bit secondary to a desktop pc to perform necessary preparations.I was trying to mark my newly formed sectionalisation equally "active" when I encountered the bulletin that the deejay was not a "stock-still MBR disk". Conversion to MBR was received past another bulletin that said that the control was inapplicable equally the disk contained a pagefile book.
